Inspired by and for my friends who are radically different than I am in worldview and theology and politics (meaning, I had written several snarky Facebook/Twitter updates but deleted them before publishing them, and wanted to take a different path). A reminder of the truth of Joshua 5:13-15:
King of the Angel-Armies,
Hear our prayer.
Give us grace to listen
to those most different from ourselves
Give us patience to respect
opinions most unlike our own
Give us love to express
to those who most raise our ire
Give us an open mind to know
that our adversaries misunderstand and misrepresent You
no more or less than we do ourselves
May we drop the weapons we bear toward each other
and fall with our faces to Earth
and bow
and say,
Speak to me,
LORD
of us all.
